15 Hands Rescue Sanctuary

The Hogan Family Foundation has recently purchased 22 acres in Hidden Valley, California which will be home to their newest program 15 Hands RescueSanctuary. The horse rescue sanctuary, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2005, will provide shelter for abandoned, neglected and abused horses in Ventura County.

The ranch will be called Rancho St Francis after St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment and founder of the Franciscan order. The facility will include a barn, paddock and stables that will be able to house more than 30 horses. Additional structures will accomodate caretakers and ranch hands, as well as a residence for the program director.

The program will be funded by the Foundation for the purpose of providing a nurturing shelter for abused and neglected horses in the community and offering rehabilitation and placement opportunities. As the program develops, the Foundation hopes to provide bonding opportunities for area children for whom interaction with horses can make a difference in their lives and teach them compassion and respect for animals. Volunteers interested in being involved with the project should direct their inquiries to the Foundation at 15hands.info

The building of this ranch is a dream born of a desire to help and a dedication to serve the greater good. As St. Francis so profoundly states, “If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men.”
