Gardens of the World Jr. Docent to be Recognized

Daniel Jacobs will be presented with a Certificate of Excellence Award on May 27th during Senior Awards Night at Oak Park High School in recognition of his service to the Jr. Docent Program at the Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks. Daniel is a 17 year old high school senior and resident of Oak Park. He has been involved in the Jr. Docent Program at the Gardens since September of 2003. Since this time, he has contributed over 55 hours of volunteer service to guiding and assisting Gardens visitors and guests.

“Daniel is a fine example of a young man dedicated to helping people and learning about different cultures. He is a pleasure to talk to and has a real commitment to his service here. He always greets guests with a smile and works closely with our Docents each Sunday that he volunteers”, said Marianne Coulson, Resident Manager of the Gardens.

The Jr. Docent program is a volunteer program that provides high school students the opportunity to complete community service hours in a beautiful Garden setting. Students are required to follow guidelines and commit to at least 15 hours of volunteer service within a 2-3 month time period. An orientation and training is also provided. If you are interesting in volunteering your time or for more information, please contact Linda Seaman, Volunteer Coordinator at the Gardens at 805-557-1135 x 5.
