Hogan Foundation to Recognize 60th Anniversary of D-Day at Gardens

(Thousand Oaks, CA) The Hogan Family Foundation is planning a tribute to the heroes of World War II at the Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks on Sunday June 6 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. The event is free and open to the public. Marking the 59th The Foundation hopes that area citizens will come out to salute the men who served this country during World War II. All veterans and widows and families of veterans are asked to come, pay tribute to those we have lost and remember days gone by.

The day will include a 40’s concert in the Bandstand of the Park by the Pat Longo Orchestra and a performance by “The Goils” saluting the Andrews Sisters. Swing dancers will perform to the music of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. Special guest speakers will include veterans of World War II including one of the original members of the Band of Brothers, the 101st Airborne Division who served the Normandy Invasion, “Rosie” Nolan. He is a former football coach at Thousand Oaks High School and a longstanding member of the community.

Artifacts of the period will be on display in the Resource Center of the Gardens for public view to include an original World War II jeep to be on display.

The Foundation has worked with World War II veteran and Thousand Oaks resident, Len Zerlin also a survivor of D-Day in Normandy and author of the book “World War II Memories”. “Len Zerlin’s passion to keep alive the memories of days gone by was the catalyst for this event”, said Dale Cowgill, foundation spokesperson. “These men are real heroes and they are diminishing in numbers everyday. They are living history and each of them has a story. We need to recognize them for their contribution to the freedoms we have today. The Foundation is sponsoring this event with pride in an effort to show the respect and recognition these heroes are due.”
