and CEO, Angelo R. Mozilo, has been chosen as the first
recipient of the Hogan Entrepreneurial Award. This honor
recognizes business leaders who best embody the attributes
of a successful entrepreneur and who have made a contribution
to society through the creation of commerce. The award
will be presented at a gala dinner to be held at the
Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley on November 20th.
In keeping
with the Foundation’s commitment to entrepreneurialism,
Ed and Lynn Hogan announced that they would like to
annually honor an individual who best embodies the attributes
of a successful entrepreneur. The Hogan Foundation currently
sponsors Entrepreneurial Programs at both Gonzaga University
in Spokane, Washington and Chaminade University in Honolulu,
Hawaii.
“Today’s
youth need role models and mentors to help them believe
that all things are possible and that ordinary people
can accomplish extraordinary things”, said Ed
Hogan, Foundation Chairman. “Lynn and I wanted
to honor an individual who best represents the entrepreneurial
spirit. We are bringing together the fields of education
and business to recognize this outstanding individual
whose successes can shine as a beacon for others to
follow. I believe the greatest contribution we can make
is to encourage today’s young people to have the
passion and courage to create a better future for our
world. We need to draw attention to those who have been
successful to serve as inspiration. Angelo Mozilo is
the ideal person to receive this award.”
A graduate
of Fordham University in 1960, Mozilo entered the mortgage
banking industry. In 1969, he co founded a mortgage
company that was built on the dream that everyone should
be able to achieve the American dream of home ownership.
Today Countrywide is a global leader in residential
fiancé and related services and a member of the
S&P 500, Forbes 500 and Fortune 500 and maintains

Ed Hogan
said, “ I admire Angelo for the successes he has
achieved. He has continually been productive by creating
commerce in the communities in which he does business.
It is a pleasure to honor a man who has made such contributions
both socially and economically. Angelo embodies the
entrepreneurial spirit and we are proud to have him
be the first recipient of this award. He has come from
humble beginnings and with hard work has proven that
with desire, determination and dedication the American
dream can become a reality.”
