Foundation Executive Announces New Dog Rescue Program
(Newbury Park, CA) Christine Hogan, Executive Vice President
of the Hogan Family Foundation announced today the development
of a new program focusing on dog rescue.
The 4 Paws Rescue Program will expand the Foundation’s
existing philanthropic efforts which include the Gardens
of the World on Thousand Oaks Blvd and the Hogan Angel
Flight Program.
The Hogan Family Foundation is designated as an operating
foundation and therefore is required to own and operate
their own programs as opposed to making grants to charitable
organizations. The mission of this new program will
be to rescue small dogs from local shelters, find them
foster homes to provide short term care and then work
to find homes for them. The work will be spearheaded
by Chris Hogan and her brothers, Glenn and Brian Hogan,
who will coordinate teams of volunteers to assist with
the program. “We have always been a “dog”
family”, says Chris Hogan. “ When the whole
family gets together the dogs sometimes outnumber the
people. It breaks my heart to think of these wonderful
little creatures sitting alone in cages without the
attention and love they deserve. Dogs ask for so little
and give so much. It is my goal to use our Foundation
to work to save as many as we can”.
Chris Hogan doesn’t just pay lip service to her
passion for saving dogs. A fan of Yorkshire Terriers,
she has saved 8 of these tiny treasure in recent months.
She has personally provided a foster home for four dogs,
has adopted three and owns one of her own. “All
together they don’t weigh or eat as much as one
Lab,” she says laughing.
The Foundation wants to expand the program to include
providing pet support for elders and therapy dogs for
people who are ill and in need of comfort. Chris Hogan
continued, “Dogs can offer so much comfort to
people. It is particularly important that our elderly
population can keep their best friends near them, but
they might not be able to get out to take care of them
with trips to the vet and grooming needs. We want to
gather a group of volunteers who are willing to support
this effort and provide assistance to these people.
We want the pets to stay in good homes with the people
who love them and who just need a little help.”
Hogan said the Foundation is asking for any volunteers
interested in giving of their time to help with this
program to call 805-480-3030. “We are also looking
for people who are willing to provide foster homes for
small dogs in the short term until we can find them
permanent homes” Anyone willing to be on a call
list should also call the Foundation offices.
Earlier this year Ed Hogan, previous owner of Pleasant
Holidays and Chairman of the Hogan Family Foundation
announced the purchase of 22 acres on Protrero Road
where the Foundation is currently building Rancho St.
Francis which will house the 15 Hands Horse Rescue Program.
The project is expected to take approximately 18 months
to completion. “Our family have always been animal
lovers”, said Chris Hogan.
